The research aims to compile a comprehensive repertoire of visual occurrences of the duel within early Italian cinema, covering national silent film production and that of the 1930s, across both fiction and non-fiction. Seamlessly integrated into complex narrative frameworks, the dueling sequences found in the films of this era engage with a broader cultural imaginary shaped by literature, theater, and journalism. By reflecting wider socio-cultural dynamics, cinema narratively metabolizes this codified conflict to elevate it to a more popular, spectacular level. Consequently, this study intends to probe the relationship between the cinematic duel and its portrayal in literature and contemporary periodicals.
