A Question of Honor

Duels in Italian Culture from the Risorgimento to the Fascist Period, between Imaginary, Representation, and Reality

An interdisciplinary project funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research and the European Union (PRIN 2022), aimed at investigating the phenomenon of the duel in its historical, social, and cultural dimensions. The project explores primary sources and historical documents, traces preserved in language and phraseology, and the literary, theatrical, and cinematic imagination surrounding the duel. Through this lens, particular attention is also given to the central value of honor, which permeated the system of social relations between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
