International Conference - Duel and Honor between the 19th and 20th Centuries: An Interdisciplinary Perspective

  • Da Thursday 23 November 2023 a Friday 24 November 2023
  • University of Florence

The conference adopts an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the duel, integrating the analysis of its literary, artistic, theatrical, and cinematic representations, as well as its related lexicon, with historical, anthropological, legal, and philosophical research into the practices and factors that sustained its social acceptance over time. These sessions have facilitated an investigation into the broader European context (with a particular focus on France, Spain, Germany, and the Austro-Hungarian Empire) while centering the analysis on the pivotal value of honor, which permeated the system of social relations throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
